A visa to enter China is required; the following information is useful.

Applying for a Chinese visa:
Foreign travelers who want to apply for a China tourist visa can go to the Chinese Visa Application Service Center at http://www.visaforchina.org for visa information.

The visa application procedure is quite straightforward, and is as follows:

Step 1--Complete a visa application
Step 2--Submit the visa application together with any required supporting documentation
Step 3--Make the payment at the time of collecting the visa

1. Notes for Entry

Visa

Taiwan: Apply for Travel Pass for Taiwanese Residents to Entry or Leave the Mainland

Application material:

-Submit the Application Form of Travel Pass for Taiwanese Residents to Entry or Leave the Mainland and Endorsement that was completed and attached with a recent hatless full-face color photograph (dimension: 33mm x 48mm);

-Submit one recent hatless full-face color photograph (dimension: 33mm x 48mm) of applicant;

-Hand over the Taiwanese identity certificate and exit-entry certificate of applicant for examination, and submit the photocopies;

-If needing to apply for an urgent certificate due to emergency, the applicant himself shall submit the written statement;

-Other evidentiary material concerned by the accepting institution shall be submitted.


Cost: valid for once: RMB50/ one certificate; valid for 5 years: RMB250/ one certificate

Travel Pass for Taiwanese Residents to Entry or Leave the Mainland: RMB240/one copy

Endorsement valid for once: RMB100/one endorsement

Renew endorsement: RMB50/one time

Urgent certificate: RMB120 (extra)/one copy

Urgent endorsement: RMB50 (extra)/one endorsement

 

Hong Kong & Macau: Apply for Travel Pass for Hong Kong & Macau Residents to Entry or Leave the Mainland.

Hong Kong resident can go to China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited in person to apply for it. The applicant needs to submit the application form, pure white-background color photograph, original copy and duplicate copy of Hong Kong identity documents. The person who holds the valid Travel Pass for Hong Kong & Macau Residents to Entry or Leave the Mainland (Home Return Card) and needs to renew the certificate can also choose to purchase a special delivery envelope at the office of China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited, enclose the application material and put it in the delivery box of certificate handling office. Macau resident needs to go to China Travel Service (Macau) Limited at Nanguang Building, Dr Rodrigo Rodrigues Avenue to apply for it.

Currency

Currency

Chinese currency, renminbi, is issued by the People’s Bank of China. Its basic unit is the yuan, with fractional currency units jiao and fen. One yuan is divided into 10 jiao, and 1 jiao into 10 fen. The denominations of paper notes include yuan, jiao, and fen, and there are also coins for yuan, jiao and fen. The yuan denominations include 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 yuan, with jiao including 5, 2 and 1 jiao, and fen covering 5, 2 and 1 fen. Renminbi is abbreviated to RMB and symbolized by ¥.

Foreign currency exchange

Currencies that can be exchanged in China include the US dollar, Pound Sterling, Euro, Japanese yen, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, Hong Kong dollar. Banks provide foreign currency exchange services.

According to the provisions of China’s prevailing foreign exchange management laws, within the territory of the People’s Republic of China, foreign currency circulation is prohibited, and transactions cannot be made in any foreign currency. In addition to foreign currency traveler’s checks and foreign credit card renminbi exchange, the Bank of China and other designated foreign exchange banks also provide 22 different foreign currency cash and new Taiwan dollar exchange. Additionally, in order to facilitate foreign exchange, as well as banks, some hotels, restaurants and shops are permitted to transact renmimbi exchange.

Deposits and withdrawals

Banks operate from 8:30 to 17:30 Monday through Friday. Additionally, ATMs are available at many places, such as banks, and major shopping streets and malls. Many foreign credit cards can be used in China, for example MasterCard, Visa, American Express, JCB, and Diners Club.

Tips and service charges

Tipping for service is not common in China, even in restaurants and bars. However, if a tourist enjoys additional special service or wants to express gratitude, tips can be offered.
