mountainous areas in the northwestern part of the province. The panda is a favorite rare
animal for people the world over, with it being featured on the logo
of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
China has 18 nature reserves, 16 of which are in Sichuan, and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is located in the provincial capital. The Wolong Nature Reserve, located 136 km from Chengdu, is one of China’s three nature reserves. The WWF established the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in this Reserve. Pandas were found for the first time ever in Fengtongzhai in Baoxing County.
