Teahouses, hotels, restaurants, local snacks, bars, theaters, handiwork, and all sorts of local specialties are on offer with Western Sichuan-style pleasure and charm. The Three Kingdoms culture is well represented here. There are Zhuge Liang dolls and mobile phone pouches with Chushibiao, an article written by Zhuge Liang, printed on them; throngs mill to the ancient town for a fair in Western Sichuan; regular Sichuan operas are performed on ancient theatrical stages; folk artisans perform their finest repertoires on the sidewalks; fun local wedding ceremonies allow tourists to join in and to appreciate the traditional life of this amazing Western Sichuan town.
Jinli Lane was recovered as a part of Wuhou Temple (Historical Site of Three Kingdoms, Jinli Folk-Custom Area and West Area) by Chengdu Wuhou Temple Museum. The 550m long lane is a famous pedestrian and commercial street of Chengdu, and is titled as "The First Street in Sichuan" and "National Demonstration Base of the Cultural Industry". Jinli rated as one of the "Top 10 National Urban Commercial Pedestrian Streets" in 2005 is equally famous with Wangfujing of Beijing, Jianghan Road of Wuhan, Jiefangbei of Chongqing, Heping Road of Tianjin, etc.
It was formally opened in October 2004, and Jinli Lane Phase II, the extended section (Waterside Jinli) was also opened in January 2009. Jinli Lane, as one representative of Chengdu culture, has been upgraded. Visiting Wuhou Temple & Travelling in Jinli Lane becomes one of the most powerful calls for travel in Chengdu.
After nightfall is the best time to visit Jinli, when people start to flock here and treat themselves to local delicacies from stalls and restaurants lining the streets, with an array of world-famous food offerings, which are, of course, a feature here - sandapao (sticky rice), roast beef pastry, yellow fermented glutinous rice, sweet noodles, cold noodles, pot-stewed meat or fowl, smelly bean curd, longchaoshou, and ye’erba (rice wrapped in leaves).
