Profile

It is located in Jian’ge County, Guangyuan City of Sichuan, more than 50 km away from the downtown of Guangyuan. Jianmen Pass integrates the culture of Three Kingdoms, Ancient Shu Path Culture, Pass Culture and Revolutionary Culture as a whole and fuses grandness, impregnability, fantasy and peace. In the poem of Li Bai Hard Roads in Shu, the comment “how lofty, steep and towering the Jian’ge Pass is, one man guarding the pass will stop ten thousand from getting through” makes the reputation of Jian’ge Pass widely known. In the history, there was a saying that “Taking Jianmen Pass, you will take Sichuan”, which shows the significant strategic geographical location of Jianmen Pass. In the past, Jiang Wei General of Shu Kingdom once fended against the Army of Wei Kingdom by virtue of this natural barrier. More than one hundred wars once happened here. And more than 10 emperors presented here and countless poets and literary men left nearly four thousand works.
There are site of the pass built by Zhuge Liang, ancient temples, inscriptions and well-known “Four Scenes of Jianmen” (Drizzle of Jianmen, Liangshan Pine Soughing, Evening Glow on Cliff and Green Clouds Dyed by Snow) and the Four Fantasies of Jianmen (Statue of Jiang Wei, Millennium Chinese Redbud, Evergreen Pine and Cypress and Stalagmite of Jianshan).
The Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008 severely damaged Jianmen Pass Scenic Area. It takes RMB 525 million and two years to reconstruct the Scenic Area and it’s reopened on April 29, 2010.
