People: Chengdu Ballet Queen
In this "era of beauty", we are labeled "goddess" if we are beautiful and graceful. However, although a natural beauty is certainly wonderful, only through baptism and precipitation of time can a woman live her own life and stand the time.
There is a real goddess named Liu Guomei, who is a 57-year-old dancing teacher of Guomei Ballet Studio. She always hair slicked back and black and white tight dancing dress, whose simple dress and upright and graceful posture make her outstanding from her peers, capturing others attention. You may think Liu must be a professional ballet dancer, but before her eleventh, she was a gymnast and after an accidental encounter with a person and ballet, she changed her life.
It was in the late autumn of 1978 when Liu met her idol—Yoko Morishita for the first time, after which her life began to change. As the chief actress of the Matsuyama Ballet in Japan, Yoko, together with her dance groups, came to China for performance and Chengdu was the first stop. At that time, Matsuyama Ballet was a well-known-to-all in China. After their arriving in Chengdu, the dance group was scheduled to perform Swan Lake in the Sichuan Theater. Two days before the performance, they were arranged to warm up and rehearse in the training room of the Sichuan Provincial Song and Dance Troupe in which Liu was a young dancer belonging to the Folk Dancing Department. She had the privilege to witness the rehearsal of the world-class ballet dancers’ brilliant dancing skills and beautiful dance movements and she couldn’t take her eyes off Yoko, the chief dancer and the spotlight. “I adore her appearance and expression when she was talking. Every movement of her fascinated me.” Liu said.
As the main event began, Yoko danced like a fairy on the stage to the melody, when Liu was totally enchanted by this swan-like dance. Liu said excitedly: “I quietly stared at her among the audience, however, great emotion and adoration to her had seized me. Now, I felt that she was just my lighthouse who could light up the way of life for me and I was enlightened that I had to learn ballet and let it become my life goal.” Afterwards, Liu’s life changed completely: she worked hard to achieve her goal even a spin was practiced being perfect.
Where this is a will, there is a way. Through her great efforts, Liu finally became a ballet dancer of the Sichuan Provincial Song and Dance Troupe. When she was 17, she suddenly decided to go “north drift” because she thought that dance resources in Beijing could help her growth. People around her ridiculed that she was daydreaming of being improved in such an age and they thought she’d better stay in the troupe until retirement. However, Liu still was not content with herself and held up to go the Beijing for study. During her studying in Beijing, she even worked in a nightclub to raise tuition despite of others’ contempt. Later, due to the limitation of her age, she failed to become the chief dancer of the troupe, but she was very optimistic: “A supporting role can also satisfy me as long as I can continue my dancing career.” She spent a lot of time analyzing the emotional control of acting just to make the role she played better even reducing her sleeping and dining time. In the last year of the New Year, 56-year-old Liu got the Level-8 certificate of ballet and boarded the stage of CCTV. She set an example to all of us that if you are hard-working and persistent enough, you will become who you want to be.
Now Liu has stepped into “the latter years of her life”, but she keeps gentle and calm. Just as people say, what a woman should be afraid of is getting lost in the plain life rather than getting old. Obviously, Liu does not lost herself, instead, she has realized her dream and been living a youthful life—enjoying tasty food, going traveling and drinking a little to relax.
In ballet, Liu is an ever-changing actress, while in daily life, she is a typical hot Chongqing woman, who has an inborn life attitude of enjoying the life. She likes travelling and travels around the world every Spring Festival. She has cruised alone to the Pacific, put up late in Koh Samui, and enjoyed an overnight karaoke bash in the red-light district of Bangkok. She selfies lot and often asks her friends to like her photos in social media so that many young students of her regards her as a fashion queen. Besides, she is also a wine tasting queen in that she drinks for several cups every diner, especially cocktails.
As for the diet, Liu never makes a conscious decision to lose weight. She said she was a typical foodie that she would lack of strength if she did not take meals regularly, which always brings her grudge from those who are easy to gain weight. She said she loved going home, especially when she heard her son playing the piano because what the family brings her is not only the joy of life, but also a sense of belonging.
In 1997, Liu established her own ballet studio—Guomei Ballet Studio in order to provide a home for those who love dancing. Though the studio has been relocated for about ten times, students still follow Liu to learn dancing. The students of Liu have different ages and vocations and most of them are in their thirties. You can find white-collars and professors among them. Influenced by Liu, all of them stick to learning ballet and they firmly believe what Liu has said that there was no true luck in our life and the only luck we can have was to work hard.
On the way of learning ballet, Liu has experienced ups and downs and just because of these tests from her life, she can keep calm and gentle and never forgets her initiatives, the real characteristics a true goddess owns. Though she becomes older and her face is seamed with lines, a spin can easily capture our sight and our heart.
